This year, the famed Buffalo Racing Festival, the only one of its kind in the world, will be held on 12th October 2019, at the ceremony fields in front of the Chonburi City Municipality Office (see map).
There will be a buffalo cart parade through the town at 8:30 a.m. The opening ceremony is at 10:00 a.m. and then the races start from 10:30 a.m. This has been held annually for more than 140 years. It is one of the most celebrated cultural heritage of the unique seaside province of Chon Buri.
The event was initiated as a way to express gratitude to buffaloes after working for farmers throughout the year. Apart from the must-see buffalo racing, the week-long festival is offering a wide range of fun-filled activities that have been created to also mark the importance of the buffalo; such as the Most Healthy Buffalo Contest, Buffalo Fashion Contest and a parade of beautifully-decorated buffalo carts.
Other highlights include a Miss Farmer Beauty Contest, Amulet Contest, and Thai Martial Arts Contest.
