The 2021-2022 Jet Ski World Cup will run from January 12th to January 16th on Jomtien Beach, regardless of the current concerns around Omicron, a fast-spreading Covid-19 variant, in Banglamung.
The event is going ahead with permission from the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) and the Tourism Authority of Thailand, a major sponsor.
About one hundred racers will be competing with many top racers from around the world who will have gone through very strict Covid-19 precautions, tests, and measures according to the Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn. All racers and vendors will also go through extensive Covid-19 testing.
The event is being held outside across from the Jomtien Night Market. Spectators (At least at the main stage area) will be required to show proof of vaccination AND take a rapid Covid-19 test according to organizers. Additionally, there will be major limits on spectators even though the event is outside. Some events normally held that attract large crowds, like bikini model shows, DJ/dance night sessions, and stunt shows will not be held this year to discourage crowds although the popular freestyle event will take place on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
