Chonburi, Thailand – On July 10th, 2025, at 1:30 PM, Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Sri Racha, Chonburi, hosted a grand celebration titled Happy Deng Day to mark the first birthday of Moo Deng, the beloved pygmy hippopotamus who has captured hearts worldwide. The event, organized in collaboration with the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand, celebrated Moo Deng’s rise to global fame as a social media sensation and a proud ambassador for the zoo.
The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Phattharaphon Khampitak, a board member of the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand, with Mr. Wanchai Tanwattana, Deputy Director (Conservation and Research), delivering the event’s objectives. Mr. Narongwit Chodchoi, Director of Khao Kheow Open Zoo, welcomed distinguished guests from various sectors, including representatives from local government, educational institutions, environmental organizations, tourism associations, private companies, and both Thai and international media. The event was filled with warmth as attendees joined in singing birthday songs and presented a special birthday cake to Moo Deng. The celebration was broadcast live on TikTok, connecting fans worldwide to share in the joyous occasion.
The day was packed with activities, starting with a charming mascot parade featuring adorable wildlife characters. A “Meet and Greet” session, led by zoo director “Captain Wit” and Moo Deng’s caretakers—Brothers Benz, Nick, and Toad—offered behind-the-scenes stories of Moo Deng’s playful antics. The event also featured a talk by prominent pet influencers, Mr. Yorch (Sorasart Wisetsin) from the *Gluta Story* page and Ms. Paen (Naphak Phakdeesara) from the *Jub Meng* page, who discussed their experiences in animal care. An exclusive auction of Moo Deng memorabilia, including her favorite bucket, paw prints, and first-ever photos, raised funds to support sustainable animal care at the zoo.
The “Happy เด้ง Day” festivities will continue over four days, from July 10 to 13, 2025. Visitors can enjoy official Moo Deng merchandise booths, engaging activities, and daily souvenirs. Khao Kheow Open Zoo warmly invites the public and Moo Deng’s global fanbase to join in this joyful celebration and create unforgettable memories together.
