Chonburi, Thailand – On August 9th, 2025, Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Sri Racha, Chonburi, celebrated the arrival of three adorable baby capybaras, born on July 18, 2025, to five-year-old father “Xiang” and three-year-old mother “Puk Pik.” The zoo’s director, Narongwit Chodchoi, announced the joyful news, noting that the newborns, whose genders are yet to be determined, are healthy and thriving under their mother’s natural care. Their irresistibly cute appearance has already captured the hearts of zoo staff and visitors alike.

The zoo is now home to a total of 21 capybaras, the world’s largest rodents, native to South America. Visitors can see the charming capybara family at the zoo’s capybara exhibit, with names for the three newborns to be announced soon.

In celebration of National Mother’s Day on August 12, 2025, Khao Kheow Open Zoo is offering free entry for children aged 12 and under or shorter than 135 cm throughout the day. The zoo has also planned family-friendly activities, including an exhibition honoring Her Royal Majesty the Queen, youth performances, a mascot dance show, a stunning snake display, and a “Take Mom to the Zoo” event featuring jasmine flower giveaways and souvenirs.

Capybaras, known for their social nature and love for water, typically weigh 50–70 kg and stand about 45 cm tall when fully grown. They thrive in groups, spend much of their day soaking in water, and feed on grass and aquatic plants during the early morning and evening.

Visitors can also experience the unique Khao Kheow Night Zoo, where the nocturnal behaviors of animals offer a fascinating contrast to their daytime activities. For more information, contact the zoo at 038-318444, ext. 213.
