Pattaya —

In collaboration with Chonburi province and the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Pattaya City is set to host the 31st Pattaya Marathon from July 20th-21st, 2024.

The event aims to promote sports tourism, establishing Pattaya as a sports hub destination in Southeast Asia, and stimulating the local economy. The preparations for the marathon were discussed in a meeting chaired by Deputy Mayor Mr. Krisana Boonsawat on July 16th, 2024, at Pattaya City Hall, with representatives from both public and private sectors in attendance.

According to the event organizers, the Pattaya Marathon will start and finish at Terminal 21 Pattaya and feature several race categories:

  • Marathon (42k) and Half Marathon (21k) for both men and women on Sunday, July 21st, 2024.
  • Mini Marathon (10k), Family Run, and Wheelchair Race (4.5k) on Saturday, July 20th, 2024.

To ensure the safety of all attendees, 100% traffic closures will be implemented on the race routes. These routes include:

Saturday, July 20th (Mini Marathon 10 km and 4.5 km):

  • Pattaya Second Road (Soi 1 to Dolphin Roundabout): 00:01 – 09:00
  • Pattaya North Road, Pattaya Beach Road, Naklua Road, and Pattaya Second Road: 04:00 – 08:00

Sunday, July 21st (Full Marathon 42 km and Half Marathon 21 km):

  • Pattaya Second Road (Soi 1 to Dolphin Roundabout): 12:01 AM – 11:00 AM
  • Pattaya North Road, Pattaya Beach Road, Thappraya Road, Jomtien First and Second Roads, and Sukhumvit Road from 12:01 AM to 11:00 AM

Deputy Mayor Mr. Krisana stated at the meeting that signboards will be installed on the event routes and around Pattaya to inform the public about the imminent closures.

TPN Media stresses that these significant closures will make large sections of the main city impassable to vehicle traffic during the event so people should make plans ahead of time or stay home during the races.

While acknowledging the inconvenience to businesses and residents, the Deputy Mayor urged everyone to understand the broader benefits of the event. He said that the temporary road closures over the two days are necessary to make sure that the marathon will be safe and successful. He also urged all residents to act as good hosts to welcome participants from around the world.

The race also takes place on religious holidays so nightlife and alcohol sales are banned and bars will be closed and thus the inconvenience to people out and about will be lessened. Read about the religious holidays here.
