Love You to Debt is a 2024 Thai romance-action film that originally came out in April in movie theatres and has just dropped on Netflix this week. The story follows Bo, an illegal loan shark and debt collector working for his tough as nails mother.
His life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Im while collecting a debt for his mother, a beautiful young Thai woman working as a bank teller in Pattaya and struggling to care for her sick father, an alcoholic street food vendor, while dealing with mounting debts and problems. As Bo and Im’s paths mix, they form a close but rocky bond that presents numerous challenges.
The movie is labelled by Netflix as a romantic comedy but in reality is much closer to a drama and action movie and can, without spoilers, be a difficult and sad watch for many viewers. Beautifully filmed in Pattaya, many scenes are shot in places that Pattaya visitors and residents will recognise like Alcazar, the Hilton, Pattaya Beach, Walking Street, Bali Hai Pier, the Pattaya Sign, local bars and gogos, and much more.
For those foreign readers with Thai partners, this will almost certainly be a movie that both will enjoy, although again you may need the tissues ready without providing any spoilers.
