As we start to see Thailand slowly ease out of some of the closures caused by COVID-19, one has to ask if there really will be a “new normal” that people will be required to adhere to from here on out, or if things will go back to the way they used to be.

Either way, we are getting ready to see the economy start back up and you can almost guarantee that for the first couple of months there will still be some sort of distancing rules to follow.  For many people, this means we may have to eat alone in restaurants.

I am not one that likes to eat alone in restaurants, so I thought it was pretty cool that the restaurant owner Natthwut Rodchanapanthkul was concerned for those that this would affect.  He is the one that came up with the idea to provide dining company for the customers of his restaurant.

Maison Saigon Vietnamese restaurant in Bangkok has taken steps to ensure that social-distancing diners are not lonely.  The restaurant has recently re-opened after the closures throughout Thailand and is putting plus panda dolls at each table to ensure you have someone to eat with.

While some people may think it is corny, it was a very kind gesture on the part of the owner, who clearly cares for his customers and their well-being.  The little stuffed dining companions will no doubt cause Maison Saigon to be a selfie hot zone.

Before the Pandas

A few diners have already expressed that the pandas make them feel less lonely and bring a little more cheer to the restaurant.  The pandas have also made it much easier for people to know where they can and cannot sit, leading to a much smoother operation.

After The Pandas

What do you think about the restaurant’s ideas?  Would you feel a little more comfortable being able to walk-in and sit down with your panda as opposed to an empty chair?

More businesses throughout Thailand will be authorized to open tomorrow, Sunday, May 17th, 2020.  For more information on what venues and establishments are able to open, see The Pattaya News article on the topic HERE.
