Pattaya, Chonburi – November 5th, 2025– Thousands of Thai and foreign residents marked Loy Krathong across Pattaya and Banglamung district on Wednesday night, continuing the ancient tradition under a veil of national mourning for Her Royal Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
Crowds gathered at designated venues prepared by local authorities, primarily reservoirs, temples, and peripheral areas outside central Pattaya. Beachfront participation was noticeably lower than in previous years, following an official request from Pattaya City to refrain from floating krathong in the sea and instead use designated inland locations or temples. Beaches were also quieter due to lack of entertainment this year for the festival.

Police, administrative officers, and related agencies deployed both uniformed and plainclothes personnel to patrol high-risk areas and ensure public safety. The evening proceeded smoothly and without incident.
Attendance was also markedly reduced compared to past festivals, as government agencies canceled all entertainment events like concerts and shows that traditionally take place on the beaches. Instead, the night focused on solemn remembrance and gratitude toward Her Royal Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, whose lifelong dedication to the Thai people remains unparalleled.

Despite the subdued atmosphere, the flickering lights of krathong carried quiet prayers in a poignant blend of cultural preservation and royal reverence. Officially, sky lanterns have been banned for years locally but many could be seen further south in Jomtien.
