Chonburi —

World-renowned restaurant and hotel guide MICHELIN Guide Thailand will expand to include Chonburi, the home province of Pattaya, in its 8th edition scheduled for release at the end of 2024, announced the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

The news was proudly shared by the TAT Governor, Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, on Thursday, April 4th, 2024. The governor stated that the expansion of Michelin Guide Thailand to Chonburi is due to the province’s diverse and unique culinary delights and beautiful gastronomic scenery.

According to its website, Michelin Guide Thailand aims to “inspire gourmets and travelers alike to explore diverse and unique culinary offerings across the country’s different provinces and territories.”

Chonburi, a popular seaside resort city near Bangkok and a world-class tourist destination, was chosen as the next destination following Bangkok (since 2018), Phuket and Phang Nga (since 2019), Chiang Mai (since 2020), Ayutthaya (since 2022), four northeastern provinces of Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Udon Thani, and Nakhon Ratchasima (since 2023), and Koh Samui and Surat Thani (since 2024).

Ms. Thapanee said that the Michelin Guide Thailand plays an important role in promoting Thai food on the global stage and positioning Thailand as a “world-class culinary tourism destination.” It is also a key force in supporting the government’s national soft power strategy, which focuses on five areas (5Fs): Food, Fashion, Film, Fight (Muay Thai), and Festival, the governor said.

Ms. Thapanee went on to say that the expansion to Chonburi is expected to benefit various aspects, including the Chonburi province itself and the country as a whole. It will also increase the market value of the restaurant business, promote local ingredients, and encourage business operators to further develop their food and service quality.

The MICHELIN Guide Thailand 2025 is scheduled to be released at the end of 2024.
