Traditional buffalo race to kick off in Chonburi from October 1st-9th next month

Chonburi —

A traditional buffalo race, which has been held over 150 times in Chonburi over decades, will kick start its 151st race from October 1st to 9th, 2022.

The race will take place at the Mueang Chonburi District Office on a special long dirt track, which will expectedly be flanked by scores of spectators from across the province.

The buffalo race is an annual festival held one day before the end of the Buddhist Lent Day on October 10th to show the farmers’ gratitude for their water buffaloes’ hard work. Even though most Thais do not use buffalos for farming anymore, many still keep them as pets due to their bond.

The event is a truly unique attraction in Thailand and in Chonburi and attracts thousands of visitors, both foreign and domestic, during the festival. There will also be plenty of food vendors, cultural exhibits, and more to keep the entire family happy.

Admission is free.
