Thailand –

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) has approved 600 million baht for the right to broadcast the football World Cup 2022 for viewers in Thailand to watch with free charges.

Mr. Trairat Wiriyasirikul, acting Secretary-General of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBCT) said today (November 9th), “The NBTC has approved a budget for the right to broadcast live the ‘FIFA World Cup Final 2022. The matches will be from November 20th to December 18th, 2022 at Doha in Qatar.”

“The total budget is 600 million baht including tax and other fees and will be for viewers in Thailand to watch free live broadcasting of the 64 matches via every platform,” Mr. Trairat explained.

“This is to allow disabled people, people with low income, and people who have less chance to access the NBTC products as everyone is equal. In addition, this final round of the Fifa World Cup is one of seven items that the NBTC has as ‘Must Have’ rules for free broadcasting for viewers in Thailand,” Mr. Trairat added.

TPN notes that original information from the World Cup said the rights would be 1.2 billion and it is unclear where the remainder of the budget would come from or if the previously quoted amount was adjusted, discounted, or incorrect.
