Pattaya City is preparing a welcoming event to honor three medal-winning windsurfers who will be returning from the 19th Asian Games in China.
A meeting of city officials chaired by Pattaya Mayor Poramase Ngampiches took place on September 29th to prepare for the return of the esteemed Thai athletes who have won three medals in the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou.
Representing Thailand, Pattaya had sent talented athletes to compete in four categories of the windsurfing competition, including Natthaphong Phonopparat in the RS:X Men, Siriporn Kaewduang-Ngam in the RS:X Women, Macmillan William in the IQFoil Men, and Aticha Homraruen in the IQFoil Women.
The competition results brought immense pride to Pattaya and the country as the team managed to secure not only silver and bronze but also gold medals.
Firstly, Siriporn Kaewduang-Ngam, also known as ‘Nong Dao,’ delivered an outstanding performance by securing the top spot and winning the gold medal in the RS:X Women’s category at the Asian Games, adding yet another prestigious medal to her collection.
Meanwhile, Natthaphong Phonopparat or ‘Oat,’ did not disappoint as he earned a silver medal for this team after showing his remarkable skill in the intense RS:X Men competition.
Lastly, bringing the contest to a splendid close was a young 18-year-old wave-rider Aticha Homraruen or ‘Ying,’ who took home a well-deserved bronze medal in the IQFoil Women category. Aticha followed in the footsteps of her predecessor and former Asian Games windsurfing champion from 1998, “Aran Homraruen,” who had previously filled Thailand with pride with yet another medal.
All of these athletes are proud Pattaya natives. In addition to bringing fame to Thailand, they are also contributing to Pattaya’s reputation as a Sports City and a hub for Sports Tourism, according to mayor Poramase.
To celebrate their achievements, Pattaya City has scheduled a warm welcome and celebration parade for them which will take place on Friday, October 6th, starting at 4:30 PM from Pattaya City Hall and proceeding along the beachfront road, concluding at the Jomtien Beach Sport Service Center.
This event provides an opportunity for people in Pattaya to join in celebrating and expressing their appreciation for the Thai windsurfing national team.
